An annual event turned violent in Brownsville, Brooklyn when a shooting occurred moments after an event entitled "Old Timer's" took place at a playground last night which left one person dead and 11 other victims injured.
Nearly 2,000 people attended the event before the festivity turned into a tragic situation, according to CBS New York. Police Commissioner James O'Neill stated that their investigating the crime which they believe is gang relation.
Furthermore, Authorities mentioned strong evidence based on multiple witness statements which convinced them that there were "no less than two shooters and two guns," CBS New York also reported.
“We all thought it was firecrackers because, you know, you felt so safe with police presence here," community activist Michael Thomas told CBS New York of the shooting he experienced. "And then when you start seeing the crowd running and screaming, then that’s when everything clicked on that, you know, that this is gunfire, so the first thing you’re looking for is cover.”
No arrests are made at this time.
