It's been over three months since the murder of African American EMT Breonna Taylor, and one officer has been fired as of today by the police department of Louisville Kentucky as of today.
Former Officer Brett Hankison was notified that he would be relieved of his duties in the form of a letter, which was penned by the police chief, as it indicates that his position "is terminated," effective as of this moment.
The letter was also tweeted by the Metro Police Department, as their post is dated on June 23rd. Taylor was only 26 years old when police broke down the door of her apartment to attempt a drug bust, only to murder her as they fired eight times. Hankison, along with the two other officers involved, were later placed on administrative leave.
According to CNN, Police Chief Robert Schroeder wrote the letter with details. "The result of your acton seriously impedes the Department's goal of providing the citizens of our city with the most professional law enforcement agency possible," Schroeder mentioned. "I cannot tolerate this type of conduct by any member of the Louisville Police Department. Your conduct demands your termination."
Hankison actions lead him to violate standard operations of the procedures where his "actions displayed an extreme indifference to the value of human life" when he 'wantonly and blindly fired ten (10) round" in Taylor's apartment, Schroeder also wrote in the letter. Furthermore, Hankison's rounds that he fired ended up into an apartment next door, "endangering the three lives in tat apartment," Schroeder included to the letter.
The LPD has also mentioned that changes would be made based on how search warrants are carried out.
