Passenger Goes Missing On A Cruise To Spain

A search is currently in process for an unidentified 63 year-old Korean woman who apparently fell into the mediterranean sea as she traveled on a cruise heading to Spain from France with her husband at the time.


According to ABC News, the woman left their cabin around 1 am to get some fresh air. Her husband made a report after he woke up only to notice that she didn't arrive back to their cabin.


In a statement by Norwegian Cruise Line spokesman, they've detailed of how the situation occurred that day. "On the early morning of June 8, a report was made that an adult female get went overboard while the ship was sailing from Cannes, France, to Palma de Mallorca, Spain," the spokesman said. "The authorities were immediately notified and a search and a rescue operation ensued. Sadly, the guest has not yet been found. Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual's family during this difficult time."

Miguel Chicon, principal owner of Maritime search and rescue in Palma de Mallorca, also issued a statement where he mentioned that the cruise squad instantly reviewed security cameras and verified that the woman went overboard.


ABC News was told by Chicon that his agency was in touch with the Norwegian company around 8:30am. Furthermore, two helicopters, a search plane and a rescue ship were dispatched to the area of the woman's incident.


The water was nearly 20 degrees celsius or else it was 68 degrees fahrenheit, Chichon also mentioned in his statement.
