News For People: When did you decide to pursue a career in music?

Areal Star: I actually decided pursue my career wen I was very young. I was in a church choir and from there I would always make singing groups with some friends. Seriously doing it I was about 16 because that's when I got into an actual singing group bt it didn't work out so from there I just started a solo career.

News For People: How would you describe your music?

Areal Star: I always say it's like a mix between of like urban-pop because it's like not completely like R&B, not completely just pop, but like a mix between the two.

News For People: what would you want people to know about you as an artist aside from music?

Areal Star: I'm definitely like a people-person. I want to honestly help people and I think I just started that learn that about myself, but more specifically help women because I feel like so many times a lot of girls feel like they need to be with this man or boy. I really want to help women feel more empowered and feel like they can move on or they can be this amazing woman that they seem themselves being.

News For People: Who are some of your influences in R&B music?

Areal Star: I definitely would say Kelly Rolland, Beyonce. Honestly, one of my bigger influences, I listen to a lot of underground artist and there's this girl Janet Claudette, she's an underground artist. She seriously... I love her. I love Kiana Lede. Those are my favorites.

News For People: What are some of your inspirations that you include in your music?

Areal Star: Definitely the things I've been through, personally. Things tat my friends been through personally. I just always get so inspired by things I know what my friends have gone through, even my mom. Me and my mom spoke about things she's been through, and I get inspired by that. Like I would just start to write because I can literally feel what their going through when their talking to me about it.

News For People: What are your thoughts on the current status of R&B artist?

Areal Star: I feel like not enough people are just doing straight R&B. It's definitely not big. We're missing that true R&B feel. Back in the day, I just feel like we had so much R&B music, like so many good hits. Now, people just aren't really targeting like the R&B audiences. I feel like we are gonna get to a point where we're like R&B would come back.

News For People: With what you've just mentioned, do you feel as tough you would want to release music to a point where R&B music is real again?

Areal Star: Definitely, I actually have a couple of records that I'm coming out with that do lean more towards R&B. I ave a record called "Admit It." That record is like the real R&B, it makes you feel.

News For People: As an artist, do you feel as though other artists are bringing the aspect of realism back to R&B music?

Areal Star: Oh forsure, like H.E.R., she definitely... I feel H.E.R. As I'm listening to her songs, she can get me in my feelings. She's singing about some real stuff, things that we actually go through. With h.E.R., she talks about real stuff, like relationship. She's just keeping it real.

News For People: What was the inspiration behind your latest single release "Don't Let Go?"

Areal Star: In that song, I'm talking about this guy that I'm sure of, I really really like him and it's kind of like he's kind of giving me the run around but I'm just telling him don't let go... I really like you.

News For People: Despite the fact tat quarantine remains in effect due to Covid-19, is their a project that people can expect from you in the near future?

Areal Star: Definitely, cover-19 has really slowed the process down. I was actually going to shoot a music video in april but I couldn't considering everyone had to be home. I'm releasing my project "Between Me And You." I was hopping for June... it might get pushed back just a little bit due to Covid-19 but definitely I'm gonna be releasing it this year. I have a few music videos that I'm gonna shoot once this stuff is all over.

News For People: What motivate you to continue your journey in the music industry?

Areal Star: What motivates me the most is my family. Crazy enough, my grandmother just passed away and she was really one of my biggest inspirations. She took care of me when I was younger. Se really believed in me. She always tried to support me in every way that she could and so honestly it made me feel really sad because I wanted her, in the physical realm, see me pop up and everything but she was ere for as long as she could. She's definitely, at this point, she's definitely gonna be my biggest inspiration forsure.

News For People: What advise would you give to a young artist who's also pursuing a career in music?

Areal Star: Definitely go hard and stay consistent. That's the biggest ting because I feel like, especially if your going to school , and working, it's so easy to fall of on being consistent as you need to be... I know because Ive dealt with that, and it can really get in the way of what your really trying to do, so you just have to go really really hard. Consistency, that's the main thing.

News For People: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Areal Star: Follow me on Instagram @imarealstar and check out my website.
