Corey Finesse Reveals Process Of 'Wounded King,' And His Motivation To Continue Music

With hip hop rappers on a similar mindset, Brooklyn hip hop artist Corey Finesse has a different vision of the music industry which he has pointed out lyrically. Finesse's blueprint has braught him to freestyle on Hot 97s' Funk Flex Show.

Currently, Finesse is all ready to releasee his new upcoming project entitled "Wounded King" which is a representation of pushing through personal struggles to achieve success and also to be a strong provider despite how much money is made.

After remaining away from music for a while, Finesse plans to make an impact, and it's noted based on his project release.

Check out Finesse's interview below as he detailed 'Wounded King' project, motives, of his daughters, to remain in the music business, and much more:

News For People: When did you decide to pursue a career in music? Corey Finesse: I’ve always had a thing for music . I recorded my first song at 9 years old and from there I was off and on with the music throughout my childhood but I’d say I didn’t fully apply myself until 2012-2013 prior to the release of the Shmoney/Shmurda mixtape featuring my song “Zoe God”.

News For People: How would you describe yourself as an artist?

Corey Finesse: As an artist I’d describe myself as Leonardo Da Vinci lol I’m here to leave timeless art. I’m a true visionary when it comes to my music and very humble . I don’t believe you can rush art and get the same results u desire. Perfection takes time! News For People: What's your thoughts on the current status of hip-hop? Corey Finesse: My thoughts on the current status of hip hop is theres a cry for help on timeless, meaningful music . I mean we still have artist like Meek Mill, Dave East, Drake, Lil Durk, Rod Wave, etc just to name a few who really speak that pain in their music but if u ask me it’s a bit watered down. It’s not even about the music anymore. It’s entertainment. I feel like if u aren’t doing anything stupid in these streets , clout chasing or something of that nature, you won’t reach your goals as fast as the ones who are.

News For People: How did you come up with the concepts of "Dear Shooter" before releasing it?

Corey Finesse: For Dear Shooter, I didn’t think of anything besides the fact that I lost a good friend . There was no real thought process because honestly at a time like that you can’t even think.

News For People: Will "Dear Shooter" be a single included to your upcoming ep "Wounded King"? Corey Finesse: Of course , “Dear Shooter” will definitely be on upcoming project “Wounded King”. King Shooter FOREVER!! He’s apart of my story! News For People: How long were you working on your project "Wounded King"? Corey Finesse: Actually , I haven’t been working on “Wounded King” that long. I’d say I began working on it in the beginning of the pandemic. It may seem like I’ve been working on it for a while though because I haven’t released a mixtape in 2-3 years but honestly I haven’t. ”Wounded King” was damn near ready the end of April, beginning of May, and then Shooter died. So I had more to talk about and I put the release on hold and continued creating music. Like I said “Perfection takes time”. News For People: What message do you hope people will receive from your upcoming project? Corey Finesse: The message I hope people get from my project will simply be that pain is inevitable. Whether you’re striving to become the best artist in the world or you’re already the best artist . There’s always gonna be pain . I’ve met millionaires and billionaires that still have problems and as a young black American, I know the struggle and hard we fight to put food on the table and we put all these responsibilities on ourself hoping and praying for better days. So I need my fans, my listeners, my supporters, to know that money changes nothing. If u ask me it brings a little more pain.... so you either let it make u or break you! News For People: Do you have any feature artists included in your upcoming project?  Corey Finesse: As of now I don’t have anyone on “Wounded King” . I didn’t really plan on having him any artist on this project because “Wounded King” is about ME more than anything . My trials, my tribulations, but as I continue creating music my vision gets bigger and I might see a few placements. But nobody can tell my story so as of now, there aren’t any features.

News For People: How do you plan to be an alternative rapper amongst other artists in the hip hop game?  Corey Finesse: I don’t plan to be an alternative rapper I’m an ARTIST. I know I’m different. When I hear a beat and get in that booth I’m another person. I tell my stories. I don’t just rap , I make reggae, RnB, Pop, if I’m in the mood lol so I’ll never box myself in. I know they say hard work beats talent but what happens if you’re talented and you work hard? Amen News For People: Whats your thoughts on other New York artists like Rah Swish, Dave East, and Fivio Forieng who are continuously making moves? Corey Finesse: I salute every New York artist out here doing their thing right now and putting on for the city! These last few weeks i’ve actually watched Dave East work on his upcoming project and I get happy for NY. News For People: What motivates you to continue your journey in hip-hop music? Corey Finesse: What motivates me to continue my journey in hip-hop music would mostly be my daughters . As a father or as a parent, you know we automatically have that “can’t stop won’t stop” mentality and I didn’t have the best childhood so i fight a lot harder to make sure their life will be a lot easier than mine was . I’ve also lost a lot in life , from friends to family. Whether they’ve died, got locked up, or we somehow got on bad terms. So I’d say my family and misfortunes keep me highly motivated .

News For People: What advise would you have for a young artist who also wants to pursue a career in music? Corey Finesse: For all the young upcoming artist , my advice to them would simply be “DONT EVER QUIT”! There will be times when they’ll feel like it’s them against the world especially in this industry and our choice of work. You’re always going to lose friends, and sometimes even family because nobody can see thru your eyes so how they can ever see your vision? This road isn’t easy but if you give up, none of ur struggles will ever be worth it and you’ll never receive any of ur blessings . News For People: Despite the pandemic, do you have any future plans set in the music industry? Corey Finesse: Absolutely! During this pandemic, I’ve been working on a few projects, just put my label “BleuRoseEnt” together! So that’s something else to look out for. I have to leave behind a legacy my children’s children can carry on when I’m gone!

News For People: Anything else you would like to add?  Corey Finesse: GLLTTTAA BOW ... I want to thank God for waking me up everyday with another opportunity and also thank you for this interview. I appreciate you reaching out! Free Cueno , Rip Shyste , Rip Shooter, and Rip Grandma! #bleuroseent
