Knowing that singing will be a main career path after her sixteenth birthday, Karisa Nicole continued her journey in the music industry to the point where she has ownership of her record label entitled THK Music Distributions.
Nicole has her mind set on making a name for herself in the music industry as she includes a sound that works for her not only showcase her voice but to also ensure that people are familiar of who she is as an urban pop singer.
Check out Nicole's interview below where she reveals her strategies on developing music, the experience of running a record label, and how her music remains relatable to people.
News For People: When did you decide to pursue a career in music?
Karisa Nicole: Growing up I always knew I had love for music but it wasn’t until my Sixteenth birthday where I finally worked up the courage to do my first performance ever and sing in front of everyone who knows me. In that moment I knew I wanted to pursue my dream by the rush I got from performing and the way the crowd responded. It was that moment where I knew I had to pursue music.
News For People: How would you describe your music?
Karisa Nicole: My music is something everyone can relate to. I have the sound of urban pop; I get the reference of “Cassie” sound mixed with “Tinashe”.
News For People: What makes your music stand out from other R&B artists?
Karisa Nicole: I would say my musical influences because I tend to incorporate different sounds and bring it into R&B. I also like to take my time and truly find the right sound along with making sure I have the right production. I always want my melodies to stick in a person’s head.
News For People: Who are some of your influences in music?
Karisa Nicole: I have many influences but my all time favorites are Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Selena, and Aaliyah. All of these women influence me vocally, with their their stage presence and their uniqueness individually.
News For People: What are some of your inspirations that you include in your music?
Karisa Nicole: I take certain situations from life whether its good, bad, happy or sad that I see others go through and experience and turn it into music.
News For People: What are your thoughts on the current status of R&B music?
Karisa Nicole: I feel as if R&B has been laying low but it’s definitely beginning to come alive again with the new amazing artists doing R&B right now.
News For People: What motivates you to continue your journey in the music business as a R&B singer?
Karisa Nicole: The surrounding fans that keep showing and giving me the love and support drive me to keep making music.
News For People: As an upcoming R&B artist, who runs her own record label, what is the experience like of running a label while working on releasing music?
Karisa Nicole: The label is just intended for my music and has stayed just that. Everything involved from start to finish has just been my own so its been a very easy task because I’m just dealing with my music.
News For People: What would you want people to know about your record label; THK Music Distributions?
Karisa Nicole: The main thing I would like for people to know about THK is the diversity in the music that is put out. Like myself, I pride my music on the diversity and reliability to many different music lovers weather you like hip-hop, country, R&B or pop, I feel I give my supporters a little bit of everything when it comes to my music.
News For People: Do you have any artists signed to THK Distributions at the moment, like GT Garza, who is featured on your single "It's A Shame?"
Karisa Nicole: At the moment there are no artists signed to THK but I do hope to add artists in the future.
News For People: What else can people expect from your record label?
Karisa Nicole: We are still in a learning process. As more Karisa Nicole music drops, with more experience you can expect for the label to grow.
News For People: What is the concept behind your single "It's A Shame?"
Karisa Nicole: “It’s A Shame” is intended to be something a lot of people can relate to. I wanted to create a song displaying the emotions of being let down by someone you were always loyal to but now you know its just time to walk away.
News For People: Are there any artists who you would like to collaborate with someday?
Karisa Nicole: I would love to collaborate with many artists but I would say my top five are definitely Drake, Miguel, Ariana Grande, Megan Thee Stallion, and Nicki Minaj
News For People: What do you want people to know about your music?
Karisa Nicole: I have music for all different types of moods and feelings. I think it’s something anyone can listen and relate to. My music is versatile and for all age groups.

News For People: What advise would you give to a young singer who is also perusing their career in music?
Karisa Nicole: My advice to a young upcoming singer is to stay focus, keep going and not to give up. A lot of people will try to make it seem like this job isn’t realistic but if you stay focus on yourself, keep singing, be active in networking, live performances and competitions, investing in your music and music videos, you can make your dream into reality.
