A celebration of the Raptors first championship win turned violent when shots were fired during the parade Monday in at Bay and Albert street closely Nathan Philips Square in downtown located in Toronto where two people were being treated with serious injuries, yet, it wasn't too severe as the investigation continues, Toronto police said.
TMZ reported that two suspects are currently in custody and furthermore both guns have been confiscated, prior two a statement from police. It was a frighten situation for the people of Toronto which made team run to ensure their safety.
Despite the dangerous situation that occurred, Raptors continued their celebration immediately with a few words from Ron Burgundy of Channel 4. "I wanna make sure everyone stay.s calm right now, please stay cal," he said. "I'm getting information that we're dealing with the situation that's not far from here," Burgundy added to the 1.5 million attendees.
Toronto Mayor john Tory released a thank you message for the police when he stated, "I want to tank the Toronto police who assisted them for the quick response to today's most unfortunate shooting after an otherwise spectacular successful day," he said, according to CNN.
In addition to his statement, Tory also offered Raptors the key to the city where he expressed his gratitude for the team.
"This historic playoff run galvanized and united not only Toronto, but all of Canada, bringing together fans from coast to coast to coast," Tory added, CNN also reported. "The victory itself and the events surrounding it will inspire Torontonians, especially young people, for years to come."
Drake shares words of encouragement, of sticking together, as a reference to the shooting.
