Tiana Kocher Talks The Importance Of Including Authentic Materials In Her Music

Creating music is her strong goal. However, R&B Singer Tiana Kocher officially went full force in her career after producers in Los Angeles took notice of her talent on Facebook. She hasn't turned her back on her career since that experience. In addition, she aims to make an impact in with her real sound.

Recently, Kocher released the music video for her latest single entitled "Boi," and now the singer is prepared to release her next upcoming single entitled "Don't Trip" as the mindset of Kocher's unreleased track relates to the real-life situation of how certain people can switch on another person.

Before her new music drops, check out Kocher's interview below where she discussed the inspiration of real-life experiences is contributed through her music, and Kocher's motivation in the business:

New For People: When did you decide to peruse a career in music?

Tiana Kocher: For me, music has always been in my DNA. Growing up, I was always creative, singing, dancing and performing skits to my family, but it wasn’t until I was 18 that I decided I wanted to pursue an actual career in music. During this time, I was in England studying musical theatre at Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts and was considering a career in musical theatre and live permanently in London. Then my mom posted a video of me singing on her Facebook and a producer in Los Angeles found the video, contacted her and asked me if I could go to Los Angeles to meet some producers and the rest, as they say, is history!

News For people: How would you describe your music?

Tiana Kocher: I would definitely describe my music as contemporary R&B. I try to make music that is very vibrant and has a warm tone. Common themes in my music encompass love, in all its forms, from romantic to friendships. I like to make music that can resonate with others.

News For people: What makes your music stand out from other artists in R&B music?

Tiana Kocher: I think what makes my music stand out is that I’m really involved with the writing process and write a lot of my own music. It is really important to me that I can connect with what I am singing and kind of consider it as an extension of me.

News For people: Who are some of your influences in R&B music?

Tiana Kocher: I’m heavily influenced by late 90’s and early 2000’s R&B music. Artists such as Aaliyah, Tamia, Keyshia Cole, Brandy, Monica and some girl groups like SWV and TLC to name a few. Some present-day artists that I look up to would have to be JoJo, Snoh Aalegra and Kehlani.

News For people: What are some of your inspirations you include in your music?

Tiana Kocher: I think much of the inspirations in my music are that I try to sing from the heart. I tend to blend my own life experiences coupled with experiences of my friends. It is very important to sing songs that are relevant to real life. Of course, not every song can be that way – but where able I am inspired by real life. You will all need to try and figure out which ones!

News For people: What are your thoughts on the current status of R&B music?

Tiana Kocher: I think that R&B music is absolutely booming right now! Seeing a lot of sold out dates and tours from a lot of people I look up to has really gotten me so excited for the future. There is so much talent in the R&B scene right now and I’m honoured to be sharing this platform with a lot of incredible artists.

News For people: How did you come up with the ideas behind your latest single and music video entitled 'Boi?"

Tiana Kocher: My latest single, “BOI” is about not waiting around for a boy to make up his mind, it’s really about being independent. Taking or leaving the situation and staying on point beating to your own drum. I worked very closely with the music video director, Marissa Meizz, to come up with a concept that was really youthful and still timely and relevant to the meaning of the song. It’s about a girl who rejects three different guys as she continues to roll with the seasons on her own path. If he doesn’t move with her, she’s fine with that too.

News For people: what motivates you to continue your journey in the music business as a singer?

Tiana Kocher: I think what motivates me is definitely seeing how hard people work around me. I always remind myself that if I don’t put in the work nobody else will. I think a lot of people forget that the artist is really nothing without his/her team. It really does take a village and for me my village is the record producer, engineer, publicist, dancers, glam team etc. etc. It is a team effort working towards one common goal.

News For people: Are you working on a project that people can expect?

Tiana Kocher: Oh absolutely! I am super excited to announce my next single “Don’t Trip”, which comes out April 3rd. This song is particularly close to my heart. I wanted to write a song that reflected something I was personally going through in my life that could resonate with others. We have all come across that one person who says that they are your friend, or part of your team, but deep down their motives are not pure. “Don’t Trip” is about that someone who has revealed their true colours, and not in a good way. I wanted to create a song to help empower people to stand up for themselves when this sort of relationship comes to light. It’s fun yet meaningful!

And….my debut EP is set to release this summer, so I am really excited for what’s coming up!

News For people: What advice would you give to a young R&B artist who is also perusing their career in music?

Tiana Kocher: I say this all the time and it may sound very cliché, but t is quite simple - never give up. You’re never going to know how far you can go if you stop, or give up, so keep pushing forward and keep doing what you love!

News For people: What else can people expect from you as an R&B artist?

Tiana Kocher: Individuality. I think it’s very important to have people to look up to, but I also think it’s very important to be unique and to stay true to yourself. I take pride in the fact that I’m not trying to copy anything or anyone. We are all unique and so for me staying me and staying true is key.
